Checking into charity: Midway hotels help raise money for local nonprofit

October begins an exciting month at the Midway Hotel Center as it kicks off fundraising events for the Back on My Feet Organization.

Back on My Feet is a program designed to help homeless get back to a more stable lifestyle through a running program.  BoMF partners with local shelters, missions and halfway houses to introduce this program to the members of the community, both volunteers and the homeless.  They then form teams and a schedule is then set to track mileage, attendance and attitudes for each session.

Members who maintain a good attendance are invited to take the “next steps” of the BoMF program. This is where members will meet with staff to help map out a plan for success and given access to tools to enhance job training or education plans.

Each hotel has set goals to reach a minimum donation amount.  This task requires staff to get creative with ways to raise money.

“We are giving away a complimentary one night stay in our Jacuzzi suites,” said Cynthia Arriaga, Operations Supervisor at Holiday Inn Express. “It’s for friends, family and guests, and we have a sign at the front desk”.

The Courtyard hosted a ‘garage sale’ where employees were able to purchase old rooms’ amenities, like scales, mirrors, duvets and pillows.  They also plan to sell ice cream to the Midway Hotel Center Staff.
The campus’ human resources department is campaigning for ‘Sneaker Week’, where staff can make a $5 or $10 donation to wear sneakers and/or jeans during November 18- 22.  Human resources also encourage Midway properties to extend fundraising plans to guests and business clients in order to help reach or exceed our goals.

 

Our management company, White Lodging, strongly believes we have a strong responsibility to give back to the community.

 

“I am both inspired and proud of our associates’ community engagement efforts. Social and community leadership is a fundamental responsibility of all of our associates,” John Randall, Regional Vice President, said.

Marriott Midway introduces mobile check in

Calling all Marriott Midway travelers using Android devices or iPhones!  As of August 27th, we would like to introduce you to our newest program at the hotel: Mobile Check-In.  All Marriott Rewards members staying at the Marriott Midway are invited to check-in using the Mobile Check-In app before actually getting to the hotel.  While you wait for your luggage or for the shuttle at Midway Airport, you can kill two birds with one stone and begin the check-in process.  It’s been a long day and you are ready to get to your room and relax as quickly as possible, plus you have five minutes to spare.

Simply download the app, choose a check-in time and a notification is sent to the Front Desk Staff. We will prepare your keys and respond back that your room is ready.  When you step off that shuttle, you will be greeted at the Mobile Check-In kiosk, confirm payment and be sent on your way.

On busy nights at the Marriott Midway, operations tend to get a little hectic.  We plan to use mobile check-in as a tool to prepare for busy days and nights on campus.

“Having the guest’s arrival times will help better prepare our team on sold out nights and for early arrivals,” said Ben Telenko, Front Desk Manager.

In a recent article published on the Marriott News Center Paul Cahill, senior vice president of brand management for Marriott Hotels recognizes the importance of the technological advancements of today and how much convenience factors impact current and future guests.

“We recognize our guests – especially Millennials – do not separate work and play, and travel enhances them both. They are more mobile and global than ever before, and technology – especially their mobile devices – keeps them connected to their world. We will continue to engage our guests to join with us on our journey to transform Marriott for next generation travelers.”

This program is available only at Marriott Midway for the time being, however, the program will soon expand to our other properties on the campus including: Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn and Courtyard! Marriott Midway also plans to introduce mobile check-out this November.

 

Five Fun Facts about Midway Hotel Center

  • There are model planes from the original owner of the property that is now the Hampton Inn Midway.  A must see. After the hotel’s recent renovation, the planes were displayed as flying through the lobby.
  • We have tooth brushes, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream, hair spray, and even deodorant complimentary for those distressed passengers that may walk through our doors with little to no personal belongings.
  • You can park at any of our hotels for $14.00 even if you’re not staying as a guest – just come in to one of the front desks and ask for a parking pass.
  • Every hotel on property offers an overnight package that includes parking for up to 14 days. There are special room rates for these packages so view them here.
  • TGI Friday’s located in the Courtyard will actually deliver to your room, in any of the hotels.

Midway in the News: Hotel experts offer summer travel advice for home away from home

Airport Shuttle is the Ultimate Campus Wheels

Although we’ve already given you some inside information on a previous post about the wonders of Midway Hotel Center transportation, we need to inform you a second time of all the great aspects of our campus wheels!

The airport shuttle runs every day of the year, 24/7. Transportation has also added extra weekend shifts, so that your commute to and from the airport so even if we’re busy, you don’t feel affected by the rush!

The Hotel Center also offers special Park and Fly packages – one includes free parking up to two weeks with a one-night stay! That means that you can enjoy both a great stay at one of our nine hotels without worrying about racking up a huge parking fee.

One of the best parts about the airport shuttle is that our transportation team can work with you for any need – we have shuttles that are wheelchair accessible. We can also arrange shuttles for special events, such as allowing shuttle rentals for your bridal party or group.

The Hotel Center offers seven buses, including three brand new buses that fit 28+ people each!

And don’t forget, you can always use the shuttle for free access to the Orange Line, located in Midway Airport! Transportation Supervisor Tony Stirn recommends always letting your front desk associate know when you need a shuttle, to assure a swift pickup!

Traveling can be one of the most wonderful- and most stressful things in life. Luckily, moving around after settling into the Hotel Center isn’t part of the stress. One of the best things about the campus is how close to downtown you can be with the help of the Orange Line. Did we mention it was cheap? It’s $2.25 per rider and you don’t have to worry about driving traffic and parking – wow!

When we set out to upgrade our hotel by Midway Airport, we had one main guideline: make the city as accessible as possible to our guests. That’s why, at Midway Hotel Center, our renovations—some complete, some nearing conclusion—are so exciting to announce. To add to the occasion, we are also offering event-planning packages for the coming months.

Renovations include:

  • The Courtyard, which received a $2.7 million overhaul, now pops with vivid colors in its lobby and features ample space for lounging, holding small meetings, or catching your favorite sports on our high-definition televisions.
