Checking into charity: Midway hotels help raise money for local nonprofit

October 30th, 2013

October begins an exciting month at the Midway Hotel Center as it kicks off fundraising events for the Back on My Feet Organization.

Back on My Feet is a program designed to help homeless get back to a more stable lifestyle through a running program.  BoMF partners with local shelters, missions and halfway houses to introduce this program to the members of the community, both volunteers and the homeless.  They then form teams and a schedule is then set to track mileage, attendance and attitudes for each session.

Members who maintain a good attendance are invited to take the “next steps” of the BoMF program. This is where members will meet with staff to help map out a plan for success and given access to tools to enhance job training or education plans.

Each hotel has set goals to reach a minimum donation amount.  This task requires staff to get creative with ways to raise money.

“We are giving away a complimentary one night stay in our Jacuzzi suites,” said Cynthia Arriaga, Operations Supervisor at Holiday Inn Express. “It’s for friends, family and guests, and we have a sign at the front desk”.

The Courtyard hosted a ‘garage sale’ where employees were able to purchase old rooms’ amenities, like scales, mirrors, duvets and pillows.  They also plan to sell ice cream to the Midway Hotel Center Staff.
The campus’ human resources department is campaigning for ‘Sneaker Week’, where staff can make a $5 or $10 donation to wear sneakers and/or jeans during November 18- 22.  Human resources also encourage Midway properties to extend fundraising plans to guests and business clients in order to help reach or exceed our goals.

Our management company, White Lodging, strongly believes we have a strong responsibility to give back to the community.

“I am both inspired and proud of our associates’ community engagement efforts. Social and community leadership is a fundamental responsibility of all of our associates,” John Randall, Regional Vice President, said.

All nine campus hotel are participating.  If you’re staying at any of the hotels, ask an associate how you can get involved or make a donation.

Marriott Midway introduces mobile check in

October 17th, 2013

Calling all Marriott Midway travelers using Android devices or iPhones!  As of August 27th, we would like to introduce you to our newest program at the hotel: Mobile Check-In.  All Marriott Rewards members staying at the Marriott Midway are invited to check-in using the Mobile Check-In app before actually getting to the hotel.  While you wait for your luggage or for the shuttle at Midway Airport, you can kill two birds with one stone and begin the check-in process.  It’s been a long day and you are ready to get to your room and relax as quickly as possible, plus you have five minutes to spare.

Simply download the app, choose a check-in time and a notification is sent to the Front Desk Staff. We will prepare your keys and respond back that your room is ready.  When you step off that shuttle, you will be greeted at the Mobile Check-In kiosk, confirm payment and be sent on your way.

On busy nights at the Marriott Midway, operations tend to get a little hectic.  We plan to use mobile check-in as a tool to prepare for busy days and nights on campus.

“Having the guest’s arrival times will help better prepare our team on sold out nights and for early arrivals,” said Ben Telenko, Front Desk Manager.

In a recent article published on the Marriott News Center Paul Cahill, senior vice president of brand management for Marriott Hotels recognizes the importance of the technological advancements of today and how much convenience factors impact current and future guests.

“We recognize our guests – especially Millennials – do not separate work and play, and travel enhances them both. They are more mobile and global than ever before, and technology – especially their mobile devices – keeps them connected to their world. We will continue to engage our guests to join with us on our journey to transform Marriott for next generation travelers.”

This program is available only at Marriott Midway for the time being, however, the program will soon expand to our other properties on the campus including: Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn and Courtyard! Marriott Midway also plans to introduce mobile check-out this November.

Dine at the Midway Hotel Center

September 5th, 2013

At the Midway Hotel Center, we try and steer clear of the “hotel food” stereotype – by having amazing and unique food. There are four great restaurants on property, giving you the option to eat whatever you’re in the mood for.

We don’t want to just feed you; we want you to have a food EXPERIENCE!

Dempsey’s took the challenge of breaking the hotel food stereotype seriously and has been producing some seriously amazing food.

Chef Ramon and his partner, Chef Jennifer, broke the mold of Irish food and constantly create unique dishes that will make you think you’re eating at a gourmet restaurant, instead of in a hotel.

Dempsey’s has seasonally changing menus, which is great because that means you can come back again and again and try new things.

What’s something new you can try soon? One of Chef Ramon’s favorites is his new grilled cheese, which features three types of cheeses, extra bread and marinara!

A dish that has been a staple on the menu is everyone’s favorite special walnut salad, which contains candied walnuts, cranberries and fried goat cheese – and it tastes just as good as it looks!

Dempsey’s is delicious but it isn’t the only food option at Midway, you can also try Coaches Sports Bar & Grill in the Holiday Inn, the Great American Grill in the Hilton Garden Inn and TGI Friday’s, located in the middle of the Midway campus.

August 22nd, 2013

Although we’ve already given you some inside information on a previous post about the wonders of Midway Hotel Center transportation, we need to inform you a second time of all the great aspects of our campus wheels!

The airport shuttle runs every day of the year, 24/7. Transportation has also added extra weekend shifts, so that your commute to and from the airport so even if we’re busy, you don’t feel affected by the rush!

The Hotel Center also offers special Park and Fly packages – one includes free parking up to two weeks with a one-night stay! That means that you can enjoy both a great stay at one of our nine hotels without worrying about racking up a huge parking fee.

Tour Chicago Easier with our Transportation!

August 7th, 2013

One of our favorite things about the Hotel Center is that Downtown Chicago is only a couple hops away! The process is easier than it looks and is cheaper than cab rides or parking garages. Inexpensive and easy? Sign us up.

Still worried about using transportation? We’re easing your fears by breaking down the process below.

Step 1: Arrive at your designation hotel on campus

You’re tired, it’s been a long flight and you deserve to put down your luggage. Use this post-flight time to check into your hotel, set down all your things and gear up for some Chicago excitement! (Not sure which hotel is right for you? Check out all nine properties here.)

Step 2: Take the airport shuttle back to the airport

As this step you may be thinking, “No, I don’t want to go back to the airport, I just left- I want to sightsee!”

No worries, your trip to the airport should be painless and easy. You can take advantage of the free airport shuttle during your entire stay and since it runs every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day – you should be able to find a time that suites you!

Step 3: Hop onto the Orange Line

You can easily hop off the shuttle and onto Chicago’s Orange Line Train Station at the Midway Airport! Spend the day exploring the Chicago area.

Did we mention that the cost for the Orange Line $2.25 one-way, per person? That means for $5 each round-trip, combined with the free airport shuttle, makes this the cheapest commute to Chicago, by far!

Step 4: Arrive back to your hotel

The process to come back is the same as the initial trip into the city- hop back onto the subway system and arrive at your hotel on the Midway Airport free shuttle.

It’s that simple.

Five Reasons to Fall in Love with Midway Hotel Center

July 29th, 2013

The Midway Hotel Center isn’t just a one-trick travel stop, it’s an experience. Check out why you’ll fall in love with the center with these five reasons below!

Reason 1: Orange Line

Traveling can be one of the most wonderful- and most stressful things in life. Luckily, moving around after settling into the Hotel Center isn’t part of the stress. One of the best things about the campus is how close to downtown you can be with the help of the Orange Line. Did we mention it was cheap? It’s $2.25 per rider and you don’t have to worry about driving traffic and parking – wow!

Reason 2: Brands, Brands, Brands

Making decisions can be hard and the Hotel Center doesn’t make this any easier- because all of the properties are great! We have nine properties rolled into one giant campus and that means you can choose the perfect hotel for you, including Marriott, Hilton and more. No matter what your needs are, there is a hotel that matches them.  (Have a question about which hotel is right for you? We can help you at 1-800-Mid-Inns)

Reason 3: Food Choices

If we’re being honest, food is one of the most (arguably THE most) important parts of a great hotel stay. This aspect of an overnight stay or drop-in meal, means that we’re the perfect one-stop place for a variety of food. Between the Dempsey’s restaurant (one of our GMs says it’s rated No. 2 of all Marriott’s in North America!)and the other three food joints on site, TGI Friday’s, Coaches Bar and Grill inside the Holiday Inn and Great American Grill inside the Hilton Garden Inn, you won’t go hungry!

Reason 4: Surprise Entertainment

Food, major brands and easy travel are all great – but what about entertainment? We know that some hotel stays can be monotonous and finding things to do can be difficult. One of our favorite parts of the Hotel Center is its surprise entertainment: watching the runway at Midway! There are rooms at several hotels that have a view of the runway and because it’s one of the shortest runways in the country, the planes fly really close to the hotels and provide hours of entertainment. It’s the little things in life, right?

Reason Five: Convenience

The Hotel Center is close to a lot of things: downtown, Midway Airport and local restaurants and hangouts. All of this makes us pretty darn convenient – but perhaps our favorite convenience to date is the 24-hour airport shuttle. This airport shuttle is complimentary for hotel guests and runs constantly – meaning you can worry less about getting to the airport and spend more time enjoying your stay!
